Service to others is a big part of the American Heritage Girls program. Girls can earn service stars based on the time they give to others. Like the badges, they are progressive in nature. Girls at a higher level will need to perform more service in order to earn her star. The requirements are as follows:

  • Tenderhearts are awarded a Blue Service Star for every 5 hours of service.
  • Explorers are awarded a Red Service Star for every 10 hours of service.
  • Pioneers are awarded a White Service Star for every 15 hours of service.
  • Patriots are awarded a Gold Service Star for every 20 hours of service.

As we are called to love our neighbors, AHG differentiates between community service and family service. If your child helps you with housework or yard work this is not community service. There are badges that address the importance of being a part of a family, but contributing to one's family does not qualify as community service. Girls may earn service hours through Troop sponsored activities, or on their own with their family, church, community, etc.

Presidential Service Award

The Presidential Service Award was put in place to honor Americans that use their time, energy, talents, and compassion for others to make a difference in the world through volunteering.

The American Heritage Girls is a “certifying organization” registered with the President’s Volunteer Service Awards, we will identify eligible recipients, verify their service hours, and distribute the Award to outstanding volunteers.
